NBA amused me with their disinvitation last year – El-Rufai

The governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has said that fact that the Nigerian Bar Association disinvited him to its annual conference in 2020 amused him, rather than make him angry.

The governor made this known when the President of the NBA visited him in the Government House, Kaduna.

When asked by journalists if he had forgiven the NBA for inviting and then later disinvite him, the governor noted that as far as he was concerned, he had nothing to forgive. He said he was amused when he was disinvited, so he did not have anything or anyone to forgive over the matter.

It would be recalled that the NBA took a decision to disinvite the governor,  following the opposition put up by some members who were against the invitation initially extended. The reasons given at the time included among others alleged refusal to obey of court order, which the governor has since denied.

In the course of the visit to his office,  the governor noted that he would continue to maintain a good relationship with the NBA, and what happened in the past should be left in the past.

According to him, “We have moved on from that, there is nothing to forgive.”

He further stated that based on what transpired at the time NBA disinvited him, he “was amused, but not offended.”

Speaking after he met with the governor, the President of the NBA said the association would continue to work closely with the governor, and his visit was a clear sign of this.
