The governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has said his government will not continue to keep ill-educated workers with bad attitude to work in its employ.
He stated this against the backdrop of industrial action embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress in the state. The NLC has insisted the government must reinstate workers affected in the government’s effort to rightsize its workforce.
While speaking on Wednesday, the Kaduna State governor took the position that it cannot be coerced as an employer to keep employees who were not adding value in any way on its payroll.
He deplored a situation where the workforce of the state was bloated, leading to a situation where 93 percent of the funds allocated to it by the Federal Government was paid to workers who were misfits for the seats they occupied.
The governor emphasized the right of his government as an employer to decide the kind of workers it considered essential to its delivery of services to the people of the state.
He further frowned at a situation where labour union would want to compel it as an employer to keep and pay workers that it considered redundant to its activities.
He further restated his government’s determination to continue to carry out its reform programmes in the state.
