The new Speaker is a silent but tactical politician – Zaria Resident

The new speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has been described as a politician but a silent one. This is the submission of an indigene of Zaria City in Kaduna State where Abbas hails from.

Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker

According the Mallam Hassan who is from Abbas’ constituency, “I can say he is a politician, not just a person who does politics just for doing it. He’s a politician. He is very silent and he always does things for his constituency. He understands power and how to silently operate on the side of power.”

As Hassan further explains, “Abbas has been in the House of Representatives since but many people say they don’t know him. This is because he goes about doing his things silently, but he’s very popular among his people, in his constituency where he does a lot of projects. He is well liked by the party stalwarts in the constituency and his emergence does not come as a surprise.”

To Hassan, Abbas has been handsomely rewarded for the kind of politics he plays. The view of Hassan is perhaps affirmed by the fact that Abbas has his full contact information on his online page, including a phone number by which he could be reached, something most politicians do not do as they become unreachable once they come to office

Abbas holds the traditional title of Iyan Zazzau which is widely considered the highest in Zauzzau Emirate and in the category of Waziri (Prime Minister) in some other Emirates. He belongs to the Malawa clan to which the current Emir, His Royal Highness, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli CFR, belongs.

Abbas was born in 1963 and he was once a lecturer. He was elected into the House of Representative in the era of President Olusegun Obasanjo and he has held positions among which are:  Chairman, Land Transport Committee; Member,  Finance Committee; Member, Special Duties Committee; Member, Defence Committee; Vice-Chairman, Legislative Compliance Committee; Member, Public Procurement Committee; Member, National Planning and Economic Development Committee.
