An outgoing professor of Political Economy in the Department of Political Science and International Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ayoade Dunmoye, has called on lecturers in the university to always ask for and make the most of their statutory Annual Leave. Dunmoye made this call at the book presentation organized on his behalf yesterday by the Department of Political Science and International Studies, ABU.
According to him, “This is my appeal to my colleagues who are still in service. Please, take time to request for and enjoy your Annual Leave. The one-month leave is necessary for you to rest and replenish your energy and checkup. Since I joined the University, I did not enjoy any Annual Leave; my accumulated leave was truncated. Many colleagues developed various life threatening ailments on the job for lack of rest. If you have the resources, travel outside Zaria – even out of the country if you are afraid of kidnappers. Only then can you live long and serve the University and country better.”
The two books presented to the public in honour of the retiring professor were: Perspectives on Peacebuilding, Security and Development in Africa, and a Festschrift – Etches of a Mentor. The former was published in honour of Dunmoye by the Centre for Defence Studies and Documentation of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, under the leadership of Professor Usman Tar. The latter was done in the Department of Political Science and International Studies, ABU, and was edited by Professor Kayode Omojuwa, with others such as Dr. Rahila Yakubu, Babangida Shuaibu, as well as Aminu Ismaila all of the same department.
Perspectives on Peacebuilding, Security, and Development in Africa was reviewed by Rear Admiral Anthony Isa, and Etches of a Mentor by Prof. Emmanuel Gyong.
Among the important dignitaries who graced the occasion were the 19th Fulani Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, who is an alumnus of the Department.
