INVESTIGATION: Inspector General of Police, ALABUKUN Maker, sued by ex-wife over police harassment

By Our Reporter

The maker of the popular ALABUKUN pain killer in Lagos State, Mr Rotimi Koyejo Odulate, has been charged to court by his ex-wife, Rihole Odulate, over accusation of police harassment of herself and other members of her family. This is revealed through an investigation carried out by our reporter.

In the suit Number FHC/L/CS.851/2022 and heard in the court presided over by Justice A.L. Allagoa of the Federal High Court Ikoyi, Lagos, Rihole Odulate accused the ALABUKUN Maker of using the Nigeria Police to harass her and her siblings.

Also standing as co-defendants in the case are the Inspector General of Police, and some other police officers, namely, ASP Idris Rasheed,  CSP Uba Bagajiya Adam,  AIG, Zone 2 Police Command, the Nigeria Police Force, Mr Uche Wigwe, Wigwe and Partners, and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The lawyer representing the plaintiff,  Ms Ugochukwu Ofili of Ukiri Lijadu Chambers, argued that her client and her family members had been subjected to police harassment over several months. In the course of the hearing of the substantive suit, Ofili stated that her client and family members had at one time or the other been arrested and unlawfully detained for days only to be later released by the police without any charge brought against them.

Investigations revealed that Odulate has not only been using the police to pick members of the family of his estranged wife, but other members of the family have been unable to travel from their bases in Europe either to Nigeria or any other country.

Investigations further shows that Mr Odulate has consistently used the police to seal off properties belonging to his estranged wife. The recent one of such sealing happened at Ahoyaya area of Lagos State less than twenty four hours after the January 18th hearing in the court of Justice Allagoa. It was established that his current effort of using the police to harass Rihole Odulate began after a divorce process instituted by her in England over which judgment had been granted in her favour.

Rihole Odulate has accused Mr Odulate of engaging in these acts because he does not want to honour any of the reliefs granted  her in the divorce suit which she separately instituted in a London court. Rihole Odulate also accuses Mr Odulate of resorting to making unsubstantiated accusations against her and other members of her family. One of such accusations included Mr Odulate’s claim that she diverted company’s resources while she was a director in the company, a claim she said was false because every measure she ever took in the company was with Mr Odulate’s prior knowledge and approval.

In the case before Justice Allagoa, Ofili is seeking the enforcement of the fundamental rights of her client, while the first defendant, Mr Odulate, seeks for the case to be struck out by the court

Justice Allagoa has fixed March 8th 2023 for his ruling on the case of enforcement of fundamental human rights instituted by Rihole Odulate.
